Holy Week

The greatest week in the Church year celebrates the final days of Jesus' ministry on earth. The climax of God's encounter with his fallen creation is found not in worldly wealth or political power but upon a lowly cross and an empty tomb.

Maundy Thursday

April 13

The highlight of the Passover celebration is the Seder meal where each family gathers together to remember what God has done. Jesus gathers with his disciples in the Upper Room and shares this meal. As the meal progresses Jesus reveals to His disciples that he is the Sacrificial Lamb sent to save God's people from their bondage to sin, and gives them the commands, "Take and eat, this is my body," and, "Take and drink, this is my blood shed for you."

Following the Last Supper with the disciples, Jesus is betrayed by Judas, arrested, and taken to the home of the High Priest to stand trial for crimes He did not commit. Experiencing Hell on the Cross, He cries out, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?"

Early on Sunday morning the women venture to Jesus' tomb to finish preparing His body for burial. When they arrive, they find the tomb open and empty. Greeted by the Lord, they are the first to know the Good News that Jesus is risen! The victory is won. Death no longer has dominion!
